OUR MISSION

AFP Western PA chapter advances philanthropy by growing a diverse community of people and organizations in the practice of ethical and effective fundraising.

Our chapter has earned the IDEA Champion Designation for 2022 which recognizes those AFP chapters who have accomplished many of the key objectives outlined in the Advancing Inclusion and Influence strategic goal.

The Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) is proud to announce that Maeve Shaughnessy and Sydney Birchard from Pittsburgh who work to support individuals with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), are the recipients of the 2022 William R. Simms Award for Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy, Group, presented by CARTER.

This prestigious national award will be presented in May at AFP’s ICON 2022, the largest gathering of fundraising professionals in the world, in Las Vegas. The two were recognized by AFP WPA last November during National Philanthropy Day celebrations and became eligible for the national recognition. We are so proud of these inspiring young philanthropists who are representing the very best of our black and gold community. Learn more here

Announcements

  • April President's Message

In less than a week, thousands of fundraising professionals will descend on Las Vegas for the annual AFP ICON Conference! I for one am thrilled to be attending, in person, for the first time since March 2019. There are several AFP WPA Chapter members who are attending the conference and I am sure we will acquire a lot of information to share with you, our colleagues and board members upon our return.  Personally, I am looking forward to meeting members from other AFP Chapters to gather resources, tips and best practices that can be shared with you for the betterment of our fundraising communities and our AFP Chapter.

One of my favorite parts of the conference is learning about some of the many outstanding professionals in our field at the closing session. Their accomplishments, impact and stories are inspirational and will send me home aspiring to do better, do more and to be a better philanthropist in general. That is also the way I feel at the end of our local National Philanthropy Day (NPD) celebration.

As you may already know, AFP WPA celebrates the accomplishments of local philanthropists, volunteers and fundraisers through our annual National Philanthropy Day celebration in November. It is my pleasure to welcome back Karen Kutzer, CFRE and George Omiros, CFRE as Co-Chairs for the NPD celebration in 2022!

This is where you come in! We need your help to identify and nominate outstanding professionals, volunteers and philanthropists in our communities for a local NPD award. I hope you can think of a volunteer, corporate partner or fundraising professional who by their nature, are generous and supportive of a cause you care about.

That said, take a moment to think about the philanthropists who make a difference in the organizations and communities you support. Who do you know who is deserving of an award through National Philanthropy Day? Then take the next step and nominate them for their accomplishments. Learn more and nominate an influential person, organization or group for an NPD award by clicking here. There is also additional information below.

Thank you for all you do for the nonprofit community. If you would like to join the NPD committee, please contact me at president@afpwpa.org and I would be happy to share more information with you.

    Sincerely,

    Jodie Tabano
    President, AFP Western PA
